From Melville to Melbourne
By Tristan Mungatopi, 2007 3:20 minutes
This story illustrates how place and family reinforce identity and provide purpose in life. Tristan was removed from his homeland when he was very young, but he has maintained strong connections with it. He had many foster families and went to 16 different schools. He built a strong sense of identity by forming links with family and land. He is now doing his masters in linguistics and language endangerment at Monash University. He explains the benefits of living between Melville and Melbourne.
